In this class expect to work on endurance and strength. Building upon the poses taught in Beginner's, you will be introduced to a few more advanced asanas and a lot more vinyasas. As always, the priority of Ashtanga is the connection of breath and movement, so expect to learn to manage your breath, and in turn Central Nervous System, in challenging situations. Ashtanga yoga is extremely popular and inspires fierce loyalty in its students. This vigorous, athletic style of practice appeals to those who like a sense of order and who like to see results quickly. Asthanga Vinyasa was developed by K. Pattabhi Jois. The primary series, also called Yoga Chikitsa (yoga therapy), is intended to realign the spine, detoxify the body, and build strength, flexibility, and stamina. Poses are taught in sequential order and are the same for every class, every time. However, no two classes ever feel the same in the body or the mind. There is no music in Ashtanga yoga, as the breath guides the practice. Students should expect to receive gentle adjustments and individualized instruction to ensure proper alignment and safe practicing. Accessible for all levels, no experience is required.
